An alternative top albums of 2009...

Not being a (complete) musical fascist I do sometimes allow my girlfriend to listen to some music of her own choosing and because of this she's only gone and written up her own Top 10 albums of 2009 which doesn't correspond to my own list. (I might have to consider changing this policy in future years but you live and learn.)

So here is S's top 10. There are some obvious crossovers but I think it's a pretty good list and I completely respect the ordering.

1- Dirty Projectors – Bitte Orca
2- The XX – XX
3- The Bowerbirds – Upper Air
4- Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
5- La Roux – La Roux
6- Grizzly Bear – Vecktimest
7- Handsome Furs – Face Control
8- The Antlers – Hospice
9- Camera Obscura – My Maudlin Career
10- Sunset Rubdown – Dragon Slayer

Honourable mentions:

VA - Dark was the night (given it’s a compilation…)

My only comments would be that I agree that Dark Was The Night is an excellent compilation and possibly could've made my top 20 but rules are rules and I couldn't let it in. I didn't think the Sunset Rubdown album was that great but then I love Shut Up I Am Dreaming so much that everything by them no seems a little underwhelming, this is my own problem. Everyone raved about The xx this year and I'm looking forward to seeing them live next year but the album didn't grab me immediately.

I was surprised to see the Antlers in S's list because we only listened to them together a couple of times, she must've been off listening to them in private :o(

We both talked about our respective lists at the weekend and there is one album missing from both that surprised us greatly and that was It's Blitz by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. For me it was a real return to form for the band and if such a thing should exist in my top 10 it would probably be my number 11.

So to play us out...

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero
