So last night was the inaugural BurnTheJukebox night at O Século. I had the usual first night nerves but I can honestly say it went better than could possibly have been expected and that's down to one thing - those of you who showed up.
After a bit of a false start (having the first date postponed) I wasn't sure how many would be showing up last night but in the end we had an excellent crowd with a wonderful atmosphere. One of my only regrets was that I didn't have time to go round and speak to as many people as I would've liked.
I was hoping to have some kind of record of what I played last night but it all happened in such a blur (and with no plan worthy of that name) that I can only remember glimpses.
Here's some of the bands/artists I played (in no particular order):
Tom Tom Club | Buraka Som Sistema | Wild Beasts | Franz Ferdinand | David Bowie | The Knife | Interpol | Diamond Rings | MGMT | Santogold | Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five | ESG | Wolf Parade | Arcade Fire | Those Dancing Days | Yuksek | La Roux | Diana Ross | A Tribe Called Quest | Make The Girls Dance | Ultramagnetic MCs | Crystal Castles | !!! | Air France | Daft Punk | The Bush Tetras | Michachu & The Shapes | Radio 4 | Max Tundra | Magic Arm | Indeep | Little Boots | Amanda Blank | Love Is All | Liars | Casiokids | Animal Collective | Phoenix | LCD Soundsystem |Handsome Furs | Dirty Projectors | Lady Sovereign | Jurassic 5 | TV on the Radio | De La Soul | The Editors | Public Enemy | Erykah Badu | Grizzly Bear | The Yeah Yeah Yeahs | Kim Wilde | Herbaliser | MPHO | Discovery
So quite a random selection but it made sense at the time and everyone looked like they were having fun from where I was standing.
The next BurnTheJukebox will be on the 24th October and I'm hoping for even more bodies and more dancing! It will feature a proper suggestions list but you can make track requests in the comments here on at the BurnTheJukebox Facebook Group
Here's the poster for the next one:
I have Indeep on a Club Disco Mix cassette tape put out by original DJ Tony Prince of Radio Luxembourg 208, in the late seventies or 1980; that is all in the Mix! Mary was a bit dissapointed we weren't put on the guest list. Next time blog the date again and again. Thanks! Rui
